To some people, sponges may seem immobile, stationary, or just bland. In other words people think sponges are boring. They are wrong about these great creatures. In actuality, sponges are one of the most interesting under water animals in the world. Now, lets reflect on what we know about sponges. Well, we know that the scientific name for these animals is Porifera. We know that these animals live under deep alt water. We also know that these creatures don't have much of a physical characteristic. Now lets learn more about these magnificent creatures. These creatures are much like jellyfish. They don't have any bones, no body symmetry, and they feed on plankton and other small bacteria under the sea. They lack organs in their body which makes them easily fit through tight spaces. One of the most interesting thing about these creatures is their ability to regenerate. Once a broken limb has been cut off or severely damaged, they can use the cells in their body to connect to each other and duplicate the damaged limb. look at the pictures below to see examples of sponges. |
